Chris Fury

Senior scientist

Christopher Fury leads NPL’s work in the area of optical primary standard metrology for the realisation of acoustic pressure, across both the Ultrasound and Underwater Acoustics groups, where research activities are being conducted to extend the frequency range of the world class standards so as to better support emerging medical imaging products. He has research interests in ultrasound contrast agents, pyroelectric detection methods, photoacoustics, and applications of metrology to medical ultrasound technology. He has authored or co-authored over 5 published papers, reports and articles, and is a member of the Institute of Physics. Christopher received his BSc in Physics from the University of Exeter in 2009, and went on to study Fusion Energy at the University of York where he completed an MSc in 2010.

He joined NPL in 2012 as a jointly appointed PhD student with University College London, where he studied acoustic and optic trapping of ultrasound contrast agents. He joined NPL full time in 2015 as a Higher Research Scientist and has been a Senior Scientist since 2022.
