In 1998, the foundations were laid for the world’s largest and most sophisticated measurement facility. Almost 100 years of sporadic growth and demolitions had resulted in a mixture of buildings spread over much of NPL’s 82-acre site. The new facility was an opportunity to consolidate the laboratory and provide more up-to-date, efficient facilities whilst greatly improving the setting.
Today, we are building an Advanced Quantum Metrology Laboratory at our Teddington site, to expand our research in quantum technologies. The Quantum Metrology Institute brings together all NPL's leading-edge quantum science and metrology research. It provides the expertise and facilities needed for academia and industry to test, validate, and ultimately commercialise new quantum research and technologies.
NPL bridges the gap between science and industry to help grow a profitable and sustainable quantum industry in the UK.
