- NPL scientists demonstrate, for the first time, a solid-state MASER capable of operating at room temperature, paving the way for its widespread adoption.
- Stephanie Bell explains what humidity is, why it's important, and what goes on in the Dew-Point laboratory.
- Laurie Winkless talks about thermoelectric materials, which can capture wasted heat and turn it into useful electricity, and measuring these materials at the nanoscale.
NPL endeavours to promote awareness of many of the scientific and technological projects that are undertaken in its laboratories with a range of videos produced in-house. The videos have been separated into playlists for ease of reference.
'Inside NPL' will show viewers some of the more interesting laboratories and their uses within the complex. NPL is famous for maintaining accurate measurement standards for the UK, and these are explained in 'All about measurement'.
'Our work' introduces some of the more exciting and ground breaking projects and concepts that key scientists are researching while the videos in 'Science in Film' visually illustrate some complex topics.
The 'NPL History' videos is a small treasure trove. Included are titles showing how important NPL research has been to modern inventions such as 'The story of packet switching' and 'The Pilot Ace', a tour of the old building and grounds and a fantastic video of the 1959 children's Christmas party held at the Lab.
Our annual Water Rocket challenge has been captured on film since 2007, and show the lighter side of life and science at NPL that is shared with hundreds of children nationally.
We will continue to add to our video portfolio so please check back regularly.
