NPL Transfer Standards

Each transfer standard is measured in one of our national standard apparatus and is provided with a certificate showing traceability to the UK national standards and UKAS accreditation (UKAS 4002) for producing reference materials to ISO Guide 34.

Material:  EXPANDED POLYSTYRENE
Lateral dimensions: 305 mm x 305 mm
Thickness range: 25 mm to 50 mm
Temperature range: -150 °C to 50 °C
Number of temperature: 5
Estimated uncertainty: ±2.0%
Guarded Hot Plate: LTGHP

NPL Reference Materials

NPL reference material specimens are cut from a batch of material that has been characterised by a series of measurements on material that is known to have stable and predictable properties. They have a higher calibration uncertainty than the equivalent transfer standard due to the contribution of variation within the batch. They are provided with a certificate showing traceability to the UK national standards and UKAS accreditation (UKAS 4002) for producing reference materials to ISO Guide 34.

Material: STAINLESS STEEL 304 INCONEL 600 PURE IRON

Estimated uncertainty: ±4.8% ±4.8% ±6.1%
NPL batch code: NPL 2S09 NPL 2I09 NPL Fe09

Material:  PERSPEX (polymethylmethacrylate)
Maximum dimensions: 305 mm x 305 mm
Maximum thickness: 31 mm
Temperature range: -10 °C to 60 °C
Estimated uncertainty: ±4.0%
NPL batch code: NPL 05/01

NB: As customer demand for this material covers many sizes, we produce these transfer standards to order. If you do not have machining facilities, we can obtain a quote from NPL's Engineering Services for preparing specimens to the sizes that you require.
