Axial Heat Flow Meter

Axial heat flow meterSpecification

  • Thermal conductivity range: 10 W/m·K to 240 W/m·K
  • Mean specimen temperature range: 50 °C to 500 °C
  • Conforms to NPL procedure QPDQM/B/411

Accreditation

  • UKAS accredited test service (UKAS 0002)

Specimen dimensions (a single specimen is required):

  • Length: 160 mm
  • Diameter: 20 mm
  • A drawing with the specification for the required specimen is available upon application. This includes details of holes necessary for mounting the specimen and positioning thermocouples

Note 1

The Axial Heat Flow Meter can only measure the thermal conductivity of a homogeneous material. If your samples have either discrete layers or inclusions, then this measurement technique will not normally be suitable.

Note 2

Measurements made in the Axial Heat Flow Meter are carried out in the normal air environment.

Note 3

If you do not have any facilities for preparing the specimen, then we can obtain a separate quote from the NPL Engineering Services for machining to the required dimensions and with the necessary holes. In this case, please provide the dimensions of the metal/alloy bar you are able to provide.

Note 4

If necessary, please pre-condition the specimens before sending to us for measurement.
