VAMAS e-Viewer
NPL has developed an emailable viewer for XPS or SIMS spectra in ISO 14976 VAMAS format, available totally free of charge.
Today's XPS and SIMS spectra contain much more information than they used to and a static image of the whole or part of the spectrum is inadequate. To solve this problem, NPL has developed the concept of eViewer - an emailable viewer for XPS or SIMS spectra. The recipients need no special software to view and scan the spectra as the eViewer is all they need and that is sent with the spectrum. You can send live spectra to a customer or anyone else, with the eViewer, free of charge. NPL eViewer is not a spectrum processing software. It is designed solely to view data.
NPL eViewer is designed to work with spectra in ISO 14976 / VAMAS format or one of several similar text files. This is particularly convenient for Static SIMS, where the mass range is so large that the information in a spectrum can rarely be assessed without "zooming" in on a narrower mass range. Situations where this will be useful include:
- Contract analysis, where spectra can be e-mailed to a customer
- Collaborative work, where two labs may use different acquisition software, and a common way of displaying a spectrum is needed during a discussion
There are two editions of NPL eViewer available to email VAMAS files, one is optimised specifically for SIMS and the other one for XPS.
NPL e-Viewer SIMS edition (
Zip file 930 KB) can be used to email and display SIMS VAMAS files on PCs running Windows 95 or later.
NPL e-Viewer XPS edition ( Zip file 353 KB) can be used to email and display XPS spectra and is platform independent.
The files eviewerxps.zip and eviewersims.zip contains the files required to run the programs, and instruction manuals for emailing, opening and viewing spectra. Please see 'readme.txt' for important information regarding the programs.
