Analysis of nanomaterials in the environment

Materials with nanometre-scale size are increasingly utilised in technology and consumer product development due to their unique properties. In the Nanoanalysis group we are developing a wide range of methodologies for the correct handling and characterisation of such nanomaterials.
Areas
- The Nanoanalysis group at NPL has a wide range of techniques to prepare and characterise nanoparticle samples.
- Nanotechnology is a huge and growing industry with a projected global market size of $12 billions in 2012 (Global Industry Analysts, Inc.). However, there is an underlying health and safety concern associated with nanomaterials.
- Due to their unique physical properties, engineered nanoscale materials are used to impart enhanced functionality and improved performance to a wide range of materials and products, e.g. sunscreens and antibacterial coatings.
