Ian Gilmore is now Chairman of VAMAS Technical Working Area 2 (TWA 2) on Surface Chemical Analysis, which conducts pre-normative research for AES, XPS, SIMS, SPM, XRR. TWA 2 is one of the most successful TWAs in VAMAS , with 23 inter-laboratory studies that have led to 19 ISO standards. Expansion of TWA 2 to cover other techniques, such as spectroscopic ellipsometry and DESI, is currently being discussed.
