FTIR Asynchronous Femtosecond OPOS for CCS and Climate Applications (EPSRC)

Project dates: 1 Feb 2010 – 31 Jan 2013

The aim of this project is to develop a novel no-moving-parts FTIR (Fourier Transform Infra-Red) system for Carbon Capture and Storage and climate-related sensing applications based on twinned asynchronous mid-IR femtosecond Optical Parametric Oscillators (OPO). This system would have the potential to acquire a high-resolution spectrum over a wide IR region in only a few milliseconds, provide high spectroscopic resolutions of < 0.01 cm-1, offer range-gated detection and provide a collimated diffraction-limited beam for propagation over 100s of metres.
