Jessica Cheung

Jessica Cheung is currently a Senior Scientist in the Quantum Detection group at NPL and has over 8 years R&D experience in photon detector characterisation and correlated photon metrology.

She has co-authored several papers in this area and has been co-guest editor for 3 special issues of the Journal of Modern Optics on Single photon sources, detectors and applications.

She is a member of the ETSI Industry Specification Group on QKD, with interest in standards and test procedures for quantum components and a member of the technical committee for the Single Photon Technology international meetings organised every two years at various NMIs.

Biography

Jessica carried out her undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the University of Reading Physics department, receiving a BSc in Physics with French, an MSc in Applied and Modern Optics which included a work placement at the DLR (German aerospace) on the development of high resolution lidar systems. She completed her studies with a Ph.D. in condensed matter physics in 2001.

The thesis studied the diffusion of oxygen in silicon crystals using small angle neutron scattering - experiments were carried out at the Institute Laue Langevin in France and the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in the UK.

She has worked at NPL since 2001 developing measurement techniques for low photon applications including absolute measurement techniques using correlated photons.
