Current interests

Guido Wilpers

Guido Wilpers is currently working on the application of quantum-mechanical entanglement for precision spectroscopy and quantum-information processing, in particular on improvements of optical ion frequency standards.

Biography

Guido received a Diplom-Physik degree from the Universität-Gesamthochschule Duisburg, Germany, after carrying out his Diplomarbeit at the JET European Fusion Research facility in Culham, England, on the calibration of a spectroscopic divertor diagnostic for neutral gas anlysis.

He received his Dr. rer. nat. from the Universität Hannover for his work on an optical frequency standard with millikelvin and microkelvin neutral calcium atoms at the PTB in Braunschweig, Germany.

Following up this work with a Feodor-Lynen fellowship from the Alexander-von-Humboldt foundation at NIST in Boulder, Colorado he completed a frequency measurement of microkelvin neutral Calcium atoms in the 10-15 relative uncertainty range.

At present he is working as a senior research scientist at NPL.
