Review of the Workshop on the (Un)Reliability of Neutron Measurements
Forty-six delegates attended on the day, two delegates attended unannounced and, in addition, ten members of NPL attended. The attendance was nine more than the previous best for a workshop. Apologies were received from four delegates who had wished to attend, but could not do so due to other commitments.
Delegates from seventeen different establishments, including four universities, attended the meeting. Two delegates were from overseas, Germany and Holland. Eleven of the delegates were attending the meeting for the first time and six delegates visited the Neutron Group facilities after the meeting.
Six guests and four staff from DQL gave presentations. It was a full programme and the morning session over-ran by about five minutes, mainly due to the number of questions that were being asked, whilst the afternoon session ended about five minutes early. The talks were varied in length, depth, level, technical content and pace. The majority of delegates judged the presentations to be excellent or very good and this was supported from discussions with delegates and colleagues.
The working lunch again proved to be a most effective and enjoyable way to utilise the lunch break. Discussions with the delegates during lunch and refreshment breaks indicated that they valued these periods to develop contacts and discuss programmes.
There were five presentations in the morning session, two of which were given by NPL staff. The afternoon session also had five presentations, with just one from an NPL staff member.
The next meeting to be held will be the Neutron Users Club (NUC) at the end of October 2007 (final date TBC).
It was agreed to continue to hold the meetings at the end of September / early October.
