IEC TC 68 plenary meeting: delegates participating in an informative tour of steel works

The plenary and working group meetings of IEC TC 68 on Magnetic Alloys and Steels were held at the premises of the Austrian steel manufacturer Voestalpine from 21-23 September in Linz, Austria.

NPL's Michael Hall convened a lively meeting of WG2 responsible for the measurement techniques needed to classify, specify and develop existing and new materials.

The meeting was attended by 41 experts from countries including Japan, USA, China, South Korea and Sweden. Those attending are pictured (right) considering one of the 26 documents tabled during the WG2 meeting. These documents include new measurement standards of the IEC 60404 series, revision of existing standards along with new work items such as a measurement technique to determine the properties of thin amorphous strip for low carbon energy applications.

There was time in the busy agenda to visit the steel works and the group who enjoyed the informative tour laid on by Voestalpine can be seen in the picture taking a break before commencing the working group meetings.
