DC measurements of magnetically soft materials: normal magnetisation curve, hysteresis loop, remanence and coercivity
CST Microwave Studio electric field model of Dielectric Waveguide Measurements
The normal magnetisation curve, hysteresis loop, remanence and coercivity of bars, rods, rings and strips of ferromagnetic material, having a regular cross-section can be determined in accordance with IEC 60404 Part 4: 2000. For tests in the range of magnetic field strength 0.1 kA to 200 kA/m a test specimen of minimum length 250 mm is required. Ring specimens can be tested in the range 0.1 kA/m to 40 kA/m.
The coercivity of relay steels and other magnetically soft materials can be measured using a vibrating coil magnetometer developed at NPL for this purpose. The method is described in British Standard BS EN 10330:2003.
Reference materials of relative magnetic permeability in the range 1.003 to 1.1 for the calibration of low permeability indicating instruments have been developed. Reference materials for other values of permeability up to 1.63 are also available.
