Accelerated ageing protocol for service in hostile conditions

Confidence in the use of polymers and polymer composites can be increased through accepted and validated testing and predictive methodologies. Currently, there is concern regarding the determination of service life. The relationship of the results of accelerated ageing tests for polymers to the actual service performance needs to be established.

NPL research aims to increase confidence in the reliability of accelerated ageing techniques for polymeric materials. This leads to reduced costs through optimised material selection/component design giving reduced product liability, repair and maintenance and increased lifetimes - even in hostile environments.
