Linking clocks with optical fibres
Further Information
How can we compare the latest generation of NPL clocks with those in France or Germany?
Atomic clocks around the world have been improving at an impressive rate over the last decade and traditional satellite-based comparison techniques will soon become obsolete.
Switching to optical fibre as the transmission medium is already proving to be a future-proof alternative to satellite links, with the aim being an international network linking a number of frequency metrology laboratories.
This talk will describe the frequency comparison techniques explored to date and present the world-leading results recently achieved at NPL in transferring a microwave reference using an optical comb over an optical fibre network
