Since joining NPL in 1985, Alistair has been involved in mathematical and statistical modelling, numerical analysis and scientific software development, with applications across metrology.

His current research interests include coordinate metrology, human sensory meterology, conformance assessment and Bayesian inference. He is on the steering committee of a number of international conferences including the series on Advanced Mathematical and Computational Tools in Metrology, and is scientific secretary of the IMEKO Technical Committee 21: Mathematical Tools in Measurement.
