Detecting biomarkers using Surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS).
Surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is an analytical technique that relies on the enhancement of Raman scattering when dye molecules are adsorbed on metal surfaces. The use of different dye molecules, known as 'reporter' molecules, enables the detection and quantification of different biomolecules in complex mixtures like blood, serum and urine.
In this Technology Strategy Board (TSB) project, three cardiac biomarkers are detected in serum and the relative concentrations determined using standard peak-fitting software.
