The importance of metrology for the public acceptance and uptake of new, energy efficient lighting solutions, such as LEDs.
New lighting technologies can save up to 75% of the energy currently used to light the world, leading to similarly large carbon emission reductions. However these new lighting technologies need to be clearly characterised to ensure they meet the expectations of users and the quality standards currently applied to traditional lighting technologies.
