Specialist facilities are required in order to conduct low uncertainty magnetic measurements and calibrations for the European Space agency (ESA).

NPL's magnetic measurement facilities in the Low Magnetic Field laboratory explained - including the low magnetic field cancellation system and low magnetic noise measurements, sensitive enough to detect ambient changes in the magnetic field caused by passing cars.

These facilities enable NPL to work on calibrating gradiometers, used to measure magnetic fields, for the ESA.
