Laser trackers are the most accurate metrology tool used for large volume measurement, and they are used in industries as diverse as civil engineering, aerospace and automotive manufacture.

To assure that a laser tracker is meeting the accuracy specification stated by its manufacturer, it is necessary to verify the tracker's performance using a standardised methodology.

NPL has set up a dedicated facility for the performance verification of laser trackers, covering not only the calibration of the laser distance measuring system and air sensors but also testing the measurement accuracy achieved by the tracker throughout a 3D volume.
