NPL is developing an exciting, state-of-the-art device for the European Space Agency (ESA) which produces microvibrations down to the micro-newton level: less than one-thousandth of the force exerted by gravity on a grain of sand.

This reference excitation device will help to calibrate ESA's microvibration measurement instrumentation and provide traceability to international standards, thus improving their capability to support ground-based testing for critical science missions.
