Detecting markers in blood serum samples that can help with the early diagnosis of disease.

The method described can detect small concentrations of myoglobin in blood (indicative of heart problems) using the dissolution of metal nanoparticles, in this case silver. The new process improves testing time, reduces cost and enables portable detectors to be produced, such as those designed by Argento Diagnostics, NPL’s first ever spin out company.
