Abstract:

This guide provides advice for those wishing to select and use instruments for measuring pressure or vacuum. It introduces the main concepts and practical techniques involved in making valid and meaningful measurements in the range 10(-8) Pa (ultra-high vacuum) to 10(9) Pa (10 000 bar), including absolute-mode, gauge-mode and differential-mode measurements. A comprehensive glossary of terms and definitions is included, together with a list of commonly misused terms.
