Simulating conditions inside a steam power plant in order to test the resistance to friction of materials.

Components in steam power plants need to resist frictional forces over long periods of time, and this experiment sought to simulate these conditions to produce wear on a variety of materials under test. It found that friction usually increases with the addition of steam and these results can help to ensure that the best materials are chosen for vital components and wear rates can be more accurately estimated.
