Coating substitution

Autumn 2010

The latest issue of Metromnia focuses on how National Measurement System funded research assists businesses develop ways to conserve energy, save water, recycle materials, monitor and trade carbon, and solve many other sustainability challenges.

This issue highlights research that aims to ensure the purity of hydrogen to be used in fuel cells; looks at NPL's rotatable hot-box apparatus, designed to measure the thermal performance of windows, doors, walls and floors positioned at any angle; and features an article on the first formal meeting between scientists working on Earth Observation and the world's National Measurement Institutes.

Also included is an article on research aiming to substitute selected coatings in the electricity generation and aerospace industries, where components used currently are scarce or toxic and a feature on how many measurements are involved in building a plane.
