Monitoring strategy
4. Decide upon personal protective equipment (PPE)
The type of PPE required will depend upon the nature of the risks in a particular area; this could be an internal or external radiation hazard. Where there is a risk of loose contamination, PPE such as mask, gloves, aprons and coveralls may be necessary. For hospital X-ray departments where the risk is due to external radiation, coats, aprons and gloves with a suitable lead equivalence may be used. It may be appropriate to wear an active personal dosemeter while surveying.
The specific methods of personal protection should be determined in consultation with the RPA.
