Monitoring strategy
The monitoring strategy will be written based on the information gathered. Where insufficient information is available to provide an effective strategy an initial survey should be performed. For example, instrument choice can be confirmed or changed from initial survey results.
The following points should be considered when devising a monitoring strategy in compliance with regulations, local rules and the principle of ALARP (keeping radiation exposure as low as reasonably practical.)
- defining the problem and type of survey
- monitoring records
- selection of personnel
- action levels
- surface contamination
- containment and barrier control
- requirement for personal protective equipment
- monitoring approach
- waste disposal
- radiation protection instrumentation
- pre-survey/post-survey checks
