Choosing the appropriate measurement tool
The choice is dependent on:
- factors required from the design drawing or CAD model
- measurement uncertainties have to be considered
(Geometrical Product Specifications – Inspection by measurement of workpieces and measuring equipment) - capability - speed of measurement maybe an issue
- availability - important not to tie up expensive and accurate equipment on making measurements that could be made easier and to the required accuracy on cheaper and less accurate equipment e.g. the use of a micrometer may be preferable to using a CMM if the tolerance is only 0.3 mm
