The whole manufacture and assembly process is enabled by dimensional measurements that rely on good design and interpretation of engineering drawings for each component.
Producing an unambiguous drawing is demanding. The function of the part and process to manufacture and inspection must be thoroughly understood and communicated. Manufactured parts have to fit into assemblies, whilst maintaining an ability to be interchangeable.
