Tom Vickers
Vickers was one of many people who moved from the Ordnance Board (Ministry of Supply) to work at NPL at the beginning of its computing work. He joined NPL’s Mathematics Division in 1946, and became the manager of the computing service that used the Pilot ACE: the first external computing service in the world. He later became the Head of the General Computing Group, which offered the services of ACE, DEUCE and KDF9.
