Biography

Tim Jones is responsible for developing and delivering the high quality knowledge services that are provided by NPL to support technology related innovation.
These projects cover topics such as developing recommendations for the UK's strategy for supporting an emerging technology, upskilling the UK's work force in response to technological developments, collaborative research to apply technology, and accelerating the take-up and exploitation of research outputs. He has also developed an innovative approach to evaluating the impact of knowledge exchange interventions.
Tim graduated with a BSc in Physics from Birkbeck College and an MBA from the Open University. He has 28 years' experience of metrology, along with a strong interest in realising the benefits of technology through innovation. He works with clients from academic, industrial and government sectors, mainly in the UK but also in Europe, Japan and China.
In 2008, Tim was invited to work in the Innovation Directorate of the UK Government Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS). This role included working with Ministers and providing support to cross-governmental innovation policy development initiatives.
He has published scientific papers in the area of photonics, generated two patents and, more recently, authored six papers demonstrating thought leadership in the increasingly professionalised domain of knowledge transfer.
