Peter Woods: Atmospheric Science and Gas Analysis

Peter is currently working on the development of unique remote sensing technologies including pioneering work on tuneable infrared differential absorption lidar, diode-laser spectroscopy, and fourier-transform spectroscopy within the Global Network for the Detection of Stratospheric Change.

Biography

Peter is recognised internationally for his innovative research and scientific leadership in the field of environmental science, particularly in measurements of atmospheric trace gases, air pollution, and stratospheric ozone depletion. His research at NPL began with a multi-disciplinary project to determine the velocity of light with unprecedented accuracy and this value is currently still utilised.

Peter has published over 70 peer-reviewed scientific papers, and has been a keynote speaker at many international conferences. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics, and has been awarded the Sir Alex Hough-Graseby Award by the Institute of Measurement and Control, and the Charles Chree Medal by the Institute of Physics for his contributions to environmental science.
