Nigel Lee

Nigel Lee is working as part of a team of scientists developing and commissioning a suite of new absorbed-dose graphite calorimeter systems. The majority of his time has been spent developing the instrumentation and software used to control and acquire measurement data from the calorimeters. Recently, he has become involved in the measurement of light ion beams used for the treatment of cancerous tumours.

Biography

Nigel has A-levels in Physics and Chemistry and an HNC in Electrical & Electronic Engineering. Nigel started work as a Laboratory Technician before becoming the Calibration and Test Laboratory Supervisor for a company specialising in the manufacture of customised batteries and high power electronics. In 1991 he joined NPL and worked in the Ultrasonics team, calibrating and testing hydropohnes. He became the Service Manager and also contributed to the new area of work, High Power Ultrasound. In 2005, Nigel moved to the Radiation Dosimetry Group where he helped to maintain the Research Linear Accelerator, calibrated electron and photon ion chambers and assisted in the upgrade of the previous absorbed-dose graphite Electron Calorimeter.
