Biography

Neelam Kumarswami obtained her BSc in Biochemistry and MLT (Medical Laboratory Technology) from Gujarat University, India.

Before joining NPL (2005), Neelam pursued an MSc in Molecular Biology at the University of Hertfordshire. During this time she gained industrial experience in biodiagnostics at Inverness Medical and drug safety assessment at GlaxoSmithKline, work which included the handling of human and animal blood samples (under GLP compliance) and the operation of immunoassay systems. Since joining NPL Neelam has worked on protein purification, bioaerosol (Aspergillus fumigatus) emission monitoring from composting facilities, and for her PhD studies at the University of Bedfordshire, the use of SERS (surface enhanced Raman) nanoparticles in point-of-care tests.
