Role

Kathryn Asplin's role at NPL is business development within the sustainability sector. Her work with the Centre for Carbon Measurement, involves reaching out to business and organisations to develop commercial opportunities across the Climate Data, Carbon Markets & Accounting and Low Carbon Technologies themes. Exploring how organisations can work with the Centre for Carbon Measurement, and more broadly within sustainability.
Biography
Kathryn's interest in sustainability stems from her time at the Carbon Trust (2006 - 2010), working initially as a Key Account Manager and later as Head of Client Engagement. Here she worked with corporate accounts and stakeholders to promote and implement a carbon reduction strategy. Kathryn then moved to King's College London to focus on business development for the divisions of Cancer Studies, Immunology and Asthma. Whilst at King's she also managed and developed a team on 30 Innovation Fellows - researchers who would champion innovation and commercialisation across the University.
Earlier in her career, Kathryn gained substantial experience in the development and sales of novel biophysical research instruments, both as a Senior Scientist at Ciphergen Biosystems, and later as Sales Director at Farfield Scientific. This provided direct experience of the challenges SMEs face in establishing new technologies and products in the marketplace. Her academic studies took her to the University of Oxford (BA Biochemistry, first class) and the University of Manchester (PhD in Biochemistry).
