Janine Avison
Current interests

Janine Avison's interests lie in and around the sound-in-air area. In addition to running measurement services, she is involved in research and development with the object of improving and extending our measurement capabilities. Her recent work will contribute to the next revision of the international standard describing the calibration of working standard microphones by the pressure comparison technique. She is currently coordinating an international intercomparison of laboratory standard microphone calibrations by the pressure reciprocity technique, for which NPL is the pilot laboratory.
Biography
Janine joined NPL's Acoustics team in 2000, after gaining a joint degree in physics and music from the University of Wales, Cardiff. She has more than a decade of experience in primary and secondary microphone calibration techniques. Janine is a member of the British Society of Audiology (BSA) and is a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Ambassador.
Role in group
Janine manages the majority of measurement services for acoustics in air. These services include: calibration of microphones by the pressure reciprocity and pressure comparison techniques; calibration of sound calibrators and pistonphones; and calibration of audiometric equipment, such as artificial ears and mechanical couplers.
