Current Interests

Deb Roy
  • Understanding structure-property relationships at the nanoscale using high resolution optical spectroscopy, force spectroscopy and electrical measurements especially for carbon nanostructures, organic nanostructures (Electronic Polymers) and biological nanostructures.
  • Developing methods of measuring inter-particulate interactions relevant for clinical applications, environmental systems, personal care and materials applications.
  • Developing novel methods for high resolution measurements at ambient and physiological conditions.

Biography

Deb Roy obtained a BTech (Hons) from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (IIT-KGP, India) prior to getting his PhD degree as a Nehru Scholar from the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy, University of Cambridge (UK). He worked on the thesis title 'Raman Spectroscopic Study of Carbon Nanostructures'. Deb spent two years at the Nanoscience Centre, University of Cambridge at Prof Mark Welland's lab before joining NPL as a Strategic Research Fellow in 2005. During this period Deb worked on developing a tip-enhanced Raman spectrometer at reflection mode. Deb has published 20 journal publications and 3 book chapters, and received Rayleigh Award (NPL's award for the best publication) in 2009. Deb is a visiting research fellow at King's College London. He collaborates with a number of research groups in universities including University of Cambridge, University of Bristol, CNRS-Orleans and King's College London on various topics in scanning probe microscopy and analysis of nanostructures. Deb now leads the research area on Analytical Nanoprobes.
