Biography

Daniel Simmons is a higher research scientist in the Sound-in-Air section of the Acoustics team. He joined the team in 1990 and has subsequently gained a Higher National Certificate in Physics and Microelectronics from Kingston University. Dan has expertise in machinery noise emission measurement and contributed to numerous publications on measurement uncertainty in sound power determination, and is a member of ISO technical committee TC43 WG28 (machinery noise emission standards). He has experience of a range of acoustic testing including: material sound absorption; acoustic instrument performance testing and calibration; microphone windshield performance; environmental noise assessment; and sound quality metrics. He also has experience of developing database solutions and software tools for data management and automation, for a variety of acoustical measurement systems.
