Ben Piper
Current interests

Dr Ben Piper is a new member of the Airborne Acoustics team working on research into various aspects of the measurement of acoustics in air focusing on MEMS microphone technology. This work includes the development of novel calibration methods for non-standard microphones both in the field and using opto-acoustic techniques as a primary method. Further to this, Ben has a keen interest in acoustics relating to wind farms and ambisonic reproduction techniques for subjective listening experiments.
Biography
Ben received a BSc in Music, Acoustics and Recording, and an MSc in Audio Acoustics from the University of Salford, UK, before completing a PhD in Acoustic Remote Sensing at the same university in 2011. This was followed by a six month postdoctorate position examining subjective annoyance to wind turbine noise. Ben joined NPL in January 2012.
