After receiving a master's degree in chemistry and pharmaceutical technology at the University of Messina (Italy) in 2008, Angelo Bella moved to the UK to pursue a PhD in Chemistry at the University of Leicester.

In 2011, Aneglo joined NPL to work on the synthesis and characterization of novel peptide-based therapeutic with a focus on the development of new antimicrobial agents and self-assembling materials.
