Andrew Deadman


Andrew Deadman is Group Leader of the Electrochemistry Group at NPL. The group delivers world-leading research in corrosion, interfacial chemistry and catalysis, and electrochemical energy conversion and storage, including fuel cells, batteries and electrolysers.

As Group Leader, Andrew has overall responsibility for project management and people leadership.


Andrew joined NPL in 1996 as a researcher in the Optical Radiation Measurement Group after gaining a BSc in Applied Physics at the University of Portsmouth.

His research has centered on spectrophotometry and fibre optics and has led NPL's calibration services for transmittance, reflectance, emissivity, gloss, colour and haze, as well as being responsible for NPL's primary reflectance measurement instrument.

He has had a number of different leadership roles at NPL, including Photonics Customer Liaison Manager, Measurement Services Leader and Instrumentation Product Manager. He is a trained UKAS technical assessor and the author of 12 peer-reviewed publications.
