Andrés Muñiz-Piniella

Current Interests
Andrés Muñiz-Piniella works on applications of nanoscience and multifunctional materials including thermoelectrics, organic electronics and multifunctional materials. He is also the manager for the cleanrooms at NPL (ISO class 5 and ISO class 7) and the manager for the AFM suite where he uses the ultra-high vacuum scanning probe microscope (UHV-SPM) at NPL. Andrés has experience setting up prototypes from 3D modelling to assembly for new measurement techniques in material characterisation and in atomic force microscopy including contact, non-contact and electrical modes such as Scanning Kelvin probe (SKPM) both at air pressure and ultra high vacuum.
Andrés is a member of the Institute of Physics (IOP), UK, and a Chartered Industrial Engineer in Spain.
Biography
Andrés received his master in industrial engineering at the technological campus of the University of Navarra (Tecnun). He moved to the UK in 2006 to do his Master's thesis at NPL and has been at NPL since. Andrés has collaborated on an array of projects at NPL, including a nanomechanical tester, nanorheometer, microfluidics, MEMS, multifunctional materials (piezoelectrics and multiferroics) and organic electronics for photovoltaics.
