Research

  • The key figures of merit for Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) systems are sensitivity and resolution.
  • NPL is presently implementing state of the art computational models of light propagation in tissue suitable for processing scattering profiles obtained from OCT images.
  • Work is presently under way at NPL to characterise the optical properties of both single and few cells, with the aim of using these properties as natural bio-markers, indicating cell health.
  • An important aspect of our work is the development of new quantitative OCT based techniques to determine the optical properties of tissue.
  • NPL's research, in collaboration with the University of Birmingham's School of Dentistry, is seeking to apply our non-invasive refractive index measurement techniques to the real-time monitoring of the extent of cure as a function of depth into RBCs.
