South East IP launched
South East IP is a new collaboration between five of the South East's leading research institutions: NPL, the University of Reading, Royal Holloway University of London, the University of Surrey and the University of Sussex. South East IP brings together details of the latest research from these institutions, making it available to search for businesses and potential investors on an easy-to-use website.
With initial funding of £75,000 from the UK Intellectual Property Office '2011 Fast Forward Competition', the new website will accelerate the exploitation of innovation in the South East by:
- providing a single place for investors and companies looking for specific technologies, to search for IP (intellectual property) from a collection of institutions in the South East
- providing a service to help participating institutions source specific expertise and equipment from other institutions in the network
- encouraging collaborations and joint funding applications
The five institutions involved in South East IP represent a significant portion of the research output in the South East. All the research listed on the website is available for licensing or other forms of commercialisation.
The NPL technology currently listed on the South East IP website includes:
- a compact, low cost antenna developed with the University of Surrey
- a 3D vibrating micro-scale coordinate-measuring machine (CMM) probe for measuring miniature parts
- a cavitation sensor that provides a measurement solution for medical equipment cleaning systems used in hospitals
