NPL is proud to be a partner in the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC), which will support UK manufacturing businesses in their pursuit of world-class performance.

The MTC is a world-class manufacturing research centre and part of the Technology Strategy Board's High Value Manufacturing Technology and Innovation Centre. It will provide access to technical expertise and state-of-the-art equipment that would normally be out of the reach of individual businesses. MTC members originate from both academia and industry, and include:

• Aero Engine Controls
• Airbus UK
• Rolls-Royce
• University of Birmingham
• University of Nottingham
• Loughborough University
• TWI Limited

NPL's membership of the MTC demonstrates our support for the Government's high value manufacturing strategy and positions NPL in a key role to support the delivery of this strategy.

As part of the commitment, NPL will assure the measurement quality of projects delivered by the MTC, provide direct measurement support to the manufacturing supply chain and capture any emerging requirements.

The MTC specialises in a range of manufacturing processes such as intelligent automation, advanced tooling, high integrity electronic systems and high accuracy automated welding. It provides the opportunity for manufacturers to develop new and innovative processes in a low risk environment.

Professor Ken Young, Technology Director of the MTC, said:

NPL's commitment to the MTC underlines the important role measurement has to play in modern manufacturing practices and gives further credibility to the activities within the MTC."
