NPL's John Pethica appointed Vice-President of the Royal Society
In November 2009, Professor John Pethica, NPL's Chief Scientific Advisor, was elected to the governing Council of the Royal Society. He becomes Physical Sciences Secretary and Vice-President, taking over from Sir Martin Taylor.
The Royal Society is the UK National Academy of Science, and elects Fellows from the UK and the Commonwealth. Its Council comprises 21 Fellows, including five Honorary Officers: President, Treasurer, two Secretaries (physical sciences and life sciences) and Foreign Secretary.
Professor Pethica will hold this appointment until 2014.
