IMC's Callendar Medal awarded to Dr Jonathan Williams
Dr Jonathan Williams, from NPL's Quantum Detection Group, has been awarded the Callendar Medal, by the Institute of Measurement and Control.

Research Scientist in NPL's Quantum Detection Group
The Callendar Medal commemorates Professor H L Callendar FRS, and is presented annually to an engineer or scientist who has, through invention, design or application, or through a series of outstanding papers or articles in the field of measurement, made a significant contribution to the art of instruments or measurement.
The Institute reviewed the work contained in Dr Williams' thesis for his recent PhD from City University and relates to the realisation of quantum standards for electrical metrology and their role in the SI.
An example of the impact of his work is the very precise measurements made on the quantum Hall effect in graphene. These measurements were all made on a high accuracy system, based on a cryogenic current comparator, designed and built by Dr Williams and described in his thesis.
The award was presented at the Institute's Annual Lecture and Learned Awards Evening in October 2011 at the Royal Society, London.
