Creating competitive advantage through measurement and inspection standards

The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) held a workshop in partnership with the Midlands Aerospace Alliance (MAA) on 15 June 2016, led by NPL experts in the field of product verification

NPL/MAA Nadcap event - 15 June 2016

The focus of the workshop was on two new measurement and inspection (M&I) standards in aerospace manufacturing - Nadcap M&I (AC7130) and AS13003 (Measurement Systems Analysis) - and how these standards can be used to create competitive advantage.

The feedback from the event was overwhelmingly positive. Delegate Tony Thain, Quality Manager from Ilmor Engineering Ltd, commented: "I found the event to be really helpful and informative. Achieving the highest quality standards is incredibly important to Ilmor Engineering. NPL's insight into these new measurement and inspection standards was very valuable and will help us to stay ahead of the competition."

Phil Cooper and John Turland from NPL's Product Verification team gave an introduction to NPL and NPL's work supporting product verification in UK advanced manufacturing, before discussing Nadcap M&I and AS13003, including what the new requirements cover and how these standards can be used to achieve significant improvements in productivity and profitability. Michael Cunliffe, Manufacturing Specialist at the Midlands Aerospace Alliance, also spoke about the opportunity for ambitious aerospace manufacturers to apply to join the next phase of the Sharing in Growth programme
