Objective

The Measurement for Emerging Technologies (MET) Programme is a new National Measurement System (NMS) programme which will develop a measurement infrastructure to focus on emerging technologies key to innovation and productivity.

The primary objective of MET is:

To address the measurement requirements of those emerging technologies that will facilitate the introduction of new products and processes, where the UK can be competitive in a global market.

Scientific Content

The MET programme currently focusses on six Key Research Themes, which are closely aligned with the DTI Technology Strategy. These include:

• Advanced Materials Technologies
• Medical Technologies
• Communications Technologies
• Technologies for Energy and the Environment
• Manufacturing Technologies
• Underpinning Metrology

Knowledge Sector Champions

To ensure that the MET programme addresses the ever-changing needs of UK industry, Knowledge Sector Champions have been appointed within the programme. These are senior scientists from within the NMS, who will develop networks in the particular themes to collect and disseminate salient information about MET.
